What is a terrarium?
A terrarium is a miniature garden in glass. Thanks to the closed ecosystem or the controlled air circulation, a terrarium is very easy to maintain and special to see.
You have the choice between open terrariums and closed terrariums . Each type has its own style and characteristics, and choosing the right one depends on your personal preference and the needs of the plants.
Open terrarium
An open terrarium is not completely closed. This can be because the glass has no lid or by means of an opening in the glass. An open terrarium is therefore perfect for plants that thrive in airy, drier environments, such as succulents and cacti.

Closed terrarium
A closed terrarium is completely sealed and mimics its own ecosystem. Moist air circulates inside, allowing plants to grow in a humid, stable environment.
This type of terrarium is ideal for tropical plants, such as ferns and mosses, that like higher humidity.
A closed terrarium ensures little evaporation, which means you need to water the terrarium less often.

Care tips for your terrarium
More tips
Watering
Water an open terrarium every 1-2 weeks, depending on the plant species. Closed terrariums need less water: often every 4-6 weeks is sufficient.
Light
Place the terrarium in a spot with indirect light. Too much sunlight can cause overheating, especially in a closed terrarium.
Ventilation
Air a closed terrarium occasionally to prevent mold formation.
