Scindapsus Pictus Plant Care: Everything You Need to Know

The Scindapsus pictus plant , also known as the Satin Plant or Silver Pothos , is a popular houseplant because of its striking, silvery leaf markings and easy care. This tropical plant originates from Southeast Asia. This Scindapsus is a climbing ivy plant but is also considered a hanging plant. This Scindapsus adds a touch of nature to any interior and is ideal for both novice and experienced plant lovers.

Care tips for the Scindapsus Pictus plant

  • Light : Place your Scindapsus in a spot with indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves, while too little light fades the leaf markings. However, a Scindapsus can tolerate a spot with slightly lower light. If you maintain this and remove leaves, this vigorous plant will continue to grow.
  • Watering : Keep the soil slightly moist, but allow the topsoil to dry between waterings. In spring and summer, the plant generally needs watering once or twice a week, while in fall and winter, once a week is often sufficient.
  • Humidity : This plant prefers a slightly humid environment, similar to its natural rainforest environment. Occasional misting can help keep the leaves healthy.
  • Temperature : The Scindapsus thrives best in temperatures between 18°C and 25°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
  • Feeding : During the growing season (spring and summer), you can provide the plant with a light fertilizer once a month. Fertilizing is not necessary in autumn and winter, as the plant is dormant.

Species of Scindapsus Pictus

There are several varieties of Scindapsus pictus, each with unique leaf markings:

  • Scindapsus pictus 'Trebie' : Characterized by larger, sturdier leaves with a grey-green marking.
  • Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' : This variety has smaller leaves with subtle silver speckles and is the variety we use at The Green Bottle Garden because of its elegant appearance and suitability for our bottles and ceramic designs.
